Now that your template is complete you can begin listing your products using the new template. Below are instructions to help you get the most out of your new design. There is also a video tutorial on our website or can view it by clicking here.
TEMPLATE CODE
You will have received a document called listing-template.txt attached to the email we sent you when we finished installing your design. This contains all of the code that works behind the scenes to make your product pages look great. Open this document (it should open in notepad or similar on your PC) ready for when you will need it in a moment. If it doesn’t try saving it to your PC, opening notepad and then opening the saved file.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Important: Please read through all of the instructions first before starting to actually list an item. There are links below to some important notes regarding images and the use of listing tools, which will need your attention and consideration before you begin listing.
- Begin as you normally would to sell an item. Either use the Sell Item, Sell Similar or if you want to add your template to a current listing then Revise Item. Depending which option you choose you will be presented with all the normal options like selecting an eBay category, adding a title for the product, price etc. We will work our way down the page as you are viewing it so you know exactly what you need to be filling in.
-
The first stages do not change from
what you are used to doing. Enter
your Title, Subtitle
(if required), Condition, Condition Description (if required), Upload Image(s),
and Item Specifics as required.

- Where you normally add your description under Details is where you will do things differently. You will notice 2 tabs called Standard and HTML. You are probably used to typing your description into the ‘Standard’ box and then styling it as required. With the new template you need to click on the HTML tab. If there is any code already showing in the HTML tab then please delete it all.
- Copy all of the code from your listing-template.txt file that we sent you and paste it into the HTML tab box. Now you can click back on the Standard tab and you will see your template design.
- You are now able to edit all of the text areas directly on the template such as product title, description, etc – including the headings on the boxes as required. You can use the normal eBay tools to color the text, add bold, links etc. We recommend that you keep things nice and simple to keep the professional look of the template – we know it can be tempting to add lots of different font sizes and colours!
- Adding your images – to add your images you can simply copy and paste any pictures you want into the Image Here area replacing our ‘image here’ default image. The width of the image box is 660px (the height will expand). For best results, work your images into the right sizes to make use of this space (e.g. if you want 2 side by side then make them 330px wide or less). Your product images are an important part of your product. Good product images can help sell your product so it is worth spending a little time improving your skills in creating the best images possible (there are lots of free tools on the web to help).
Important: You should not add images wider than 660px as this can push your template off to the side and ruin the professional look you have created. The template will look to resize images in the main ‘image here’ area but for best results you should try to resize them before pasting them in.
- Once you are happy with the page just finish listing your item as normal, adding any information to the Format and Price, Payment, P&P and Returns areas as required. That’s it - you are all done!
TIP: When you create your first item using the template you might add some text to some of the areas that apply to all of your items and not just this one e.g any additional boxes you requested like ‘returns’ or ‘customer information’ as these will not change on each item. To save changing the same text every time you create an item, you can make your changes, then switch back to the HTML tab and copy the code after. You can then use this new code as your base code when you list more items.
